Engineering, maintenance and construction provider Tempo Australia has announced its subsidiary, Tempo Construction and Maintenance, has won a contract with Santos for provision of labour trade resources at its operations in the Cooper Basin.

Chief financial officer Michael West said the three-year contract would engage Tempo to provide a work force on the site.

It is not yet known how many employees will be required at the project, which sits on Queensland’s border with South Australia.

Santos is a 60 per cent owner in the Cooper Basin operations, where commercial gas was first discovered in 1963.

Expenditure on the project was upwards of $10 billion, and Santos said it was one of the nation’s largest ever onshore resources projects.

Tempo was up 10 per cent to 5.4 cents per share at the close.
