TRG Properties has acquired a 2,424 square metre mixed-use lot at the Midland Railway Workshops for $1.65 million. The company is planning a three-storey development of four commercial offices and 37 apartments on the lot, situated on the corner of Wallsend and Foundry roads. Midland Redevelopment Authority chief executive Kieran Kinsella said the $680/sqm sale was an excellent result. The development site is located behind the MRA’s offices and is close to the rail station, city centre and planned Midland Health Campus. “It augurs well for our plans for a vibrant urban village in the workshops heritage area, where the first residential development lots are scheduled for release in spring 2008,” Mr Kinsella said in a statement. TRG project director Domenis Chiappalone said its only other development in the area, Juniper Apartments, had sold out quickly and continuing demand and price growth was expected in Midland. Located on the corner of Keane Street and The Crescent, the Juniper project comprised 41 apartments and 400sqm of office space. Other developers active in the area include the Dibstone Group and Frank Ghalili’s company, Chevar Holdings Pty Ltd.
