Synergy boss to step down in April

The managing director of Synergy, the state's main energy retailer, Jim Mitchell has decided to step down at the end of his current contract in April next year.

"Having discussed this with Jim, I completely support and understand his decision," said Synergy Chairman Michael Smith.

"There is no doubt Jim is recognised as one of the nation's leaders on evolving energy markets.

"I look forward to him continuing to make a contribution in this field in the next phase of his professional life in a directorship and strategic capacity, rather than managerial," said Mr Smith.

The Synergy board has started the work of identifying a successor to Mr Mitchell.

Mr Smith said the board is confident of finding the right person to lead the business in this very challenging and evolving energy industry
