Silicon Valley-based solar panel manufacturer SunPower Corporation has entered the Australian market following its acquisition of Belmont-based Solar Sales Pty Ltd.
The US company said today the acquisition of its customer would form a base to extend into Australia's commercial and residential markets.
Solar Sales offers panels and inverters through a network of 30 dealers through Australia, and designs, builds and commissions large-scale commercial systems.
"The strength of its management team, coupled with its market understanding and momentum, will help to form an ideal platform from which we can succeed in both the commercial and residential markets," SunPower senior vice president of global business Howard Wenger.
Solar Sales managing director Bob Blakiston said the acquisition is a good fit for the company to expand its dealer base.
"I am tremendously excited that SunPower has chosen this time to enter the Australian market," Mr Blakiston said.
"This strategic acquisition strengthens our ability to bring SunPower's capabilities and proven components and systems technologies to the Australian market.
"As the demand for solar grows, we look forward to expanding our dealer base, commercial systems business and SunPower product offerings."
Solar Sales will be renamed SunPower Australia and Mr Blakiston will remain as managing director.
