INTERNET advertising specialist Elink Media Limited has appointed WA businessman and Business News corporate consultant as non-executive chairman of its board of directors.

The appointment comes as Elink finalises its prospectus for a public listing in the next six to eight weeks.

Mr Stewart, 59, is the chairman of the WA Lotteries Commission, a member of the Gaming Commis-sion and a director of Lamp Management Ltd within the Plan B Financial Services group of companies.

He has also been the business editor and corporate consultant for Business News for more than four years and sits on the board of Channel 31.

Previously, Mr Stewart was a State councillor of the Institute of Company Directors, chairman of the WA Government’s Charitable Collections Advisory Committee, and a member of the WA Supply Commission and the State Government’s Soccer Task Force.

Mr Stewart served as the WA director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1984 to 1994 and was director of marketing for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu for two years.

He was also assistant general secretary and finance director of the Liberal Party of WA for almost six years.

Elink Media’s CEO David Bunney said Mr Stewart would bring a wealth of experience to the company.

“It is very exciting to have someone with Mr Stewart’s extensive background and experience in the media, political and corporate environments accept this position with Elink,” Mr Bunney said.

Mr Stewart said his appointment came at an exciting time for the online advertising industry, with a recent US study claiming that Internet advertising would grow more than four-fold to $24.4 billion by 2004.

“In Australia, www.consult estimates that the Australian online advertising revenue in 2000 will be about $160 million, or about 2.1 per cent of the nation’s total advertising revenue of $7.8 billion,” Mr Stewart said.

“Next year, Australia’s online advertising revenue is estimated to increase to $210 million, almost doubling in 2002 to $405 million.

“It certainly is a very exciting time to join Elink Media, which later this year will become only the third publicly-listed online advertising company in Australia.”
