Steve’s lease up for grabs

PUBLICAN Murray McHenry is believed to be close to finalising a new lease holder for the famous Nedlands Park Hotel, known colloquially as Steve’s.

It is understood Mr McHenry has spoken to about six parties but he did not want to discuss who had been approached about taking over the popular venue.

Steve’s is considered a major drinking hole for students at the nearby University of WA but has been the subject of noise complaints and licence restrictions.

Carlton & United Breweries subsidiary Australian Leisure and Hospitality is considered a likely candidate and it was also understood Geoff Ogden has held discussions regarding the pub which overlooks the Swan River.

Both have significant credentials running icon pubs in Perth.

ALH runs the Sail & Anchor, The Captain Stirling, The Brass Monkey, The Queens and The Como as well as several suburban hotels. Mr Ogden’s brassieres in South Perth, Cottesloe and Gosnells are also well known.

A 15-year lease which can be exited at relatively short notice is understood to be part of the deal, allowing Mr McHenry the option of redevelopment.
