The Centre for Engineering Leadership and Management (CELM) is hosting a breakfast workshop for business leaders who are looking to venture overseas, May 3 at the Sheraton Perth Hotel. Australia with its engineers must compete on the world stage or risk being left in a technical and commercial backwater. However, overseas work seems to carry more risks, not so much from the technical side but in areas of culture, risks to staff, client expectations, payment, bureaucracy and corruption. This intent of this workshop is to allow attendees to hear from others who have gone before and learn some valuable "tricks of the trade". Keynote speakers for this event include: • Dr David Mofflin – executive director technology commercialisation, Worley-Parsons; • John Flecker – director, Multiplex Constructions Pty Ltd; and • Bruce Munro – president director, Thiess Indonesia. A short presentation from each speaker will be followed by a facilitated question session to explore the issues involved with working overseas. Attendance for this event costs $40 for CELM members and $60 for non members, with corporate tables also available.
