The state government has awarded Brookfield Multiplex the design and construction contract for the $207 million Karratha Health Campus.

Brookfield will design and construct the facility, having been named the preferred tenderer for the project in April.

LandCorp is currently undertaking earthworks at the site, with Brookfield expected to begin construction in the middle of next year.

The proposed health campus will have an emergency department with twice the capacity of the existing facilities in the town.

The campus will also have a helipad, as well as purpose-built maternity and surgical centres.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the project would include expanded outpatient facilities.

"The Karratha Health Campus will have double the number of emergency department bays, a state-of-the-art CT scanner, a brand new surgical centre, new maternity wing and delivery suites, helipad and expanded outpatient facilities,” he said.

"Brand new videoconferencing facilities and equipment means telehealth services will also link local medical staff and patients to WA's leading emergency and specialist practitioners at other hospitals if needed."

The project is funded with $206.5 million from the Royalties for Regions scheme and $650,000 through the Pilbara Health Initiative.
