Starmall rakes it in

PERTH-based online shopping mall Starmall is trading profitably and gaining a large client base, says Starmall managing director Clif Edwards.

“On Yahoo, Alta Vista and Google we come up with the description – not put in by us – ‘Australia’s leading online department store’ and a recent newsgroup recommendation that we had the best value DVD player under $500 has meant a huge level of enquiry,” Mr Edwards said.

“We have just returned from two gift, homewares and jewellery trade shows in Melbourne with a pile of new suppliers – mostly referred from existing suppliers.”

Mr Edwards said key reasons for the web site’s success were its superior delivery and payment systems.

“We have a pricing policy that is Sydney competitive and deliver to most of Australia at the same price.

“We will introduce Bpay shortly and all transactions are insured against credit card fraud.”

Mr Edwards said the company had no plans to list on any stock exchange.
