Not-for-profit health care group St John of God has unveiled plans to build a new hospital in the state’s South West next year in a bid to keep pace with the region’s growing population.

St John of God has partnered with Blackoak Capital Ventures to progress the development, which will provide surgical services, oncology, dialysis and ambulatory services and consulting rooms for specialist doctors to use.

The facility is earmarked for a 1.3 hectare property in the Vasse Town Centre, owned by the development arm of property investment giant Perron Group and Security Capital Australia investment syndicate Stawell.

The hospital will be situated in Perron Group’s Vasse Village, a residential subdivision expected to be home to more than 2,000 homes and commercial, educational and recreational facilities.

The facility is tipped to address the growing demand for medical care in the region and prevent patients from having to travel 45 minutes to Bunbury or several hours to Perth.

St John of God Bunbury Hospital chief executive Jeffrey Williams said the new facility would allow its team of specialist doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to continue to provide high quality care across the region.

The development is still subject to regulatory approvals.

The not-for-profit has not yet revealed how much it is likely to cost.
