Margaret River-based Smilov Spirits has opened pre-orders for its new lavender gin, following the success of its vodka launched during the pandemic.
The lavender gin product is scheduled to officially launch April 4 in the lead up to Easter and is expected to join Qantas Airways’ online gin range.
Smilov Spirits’ vodka is the only Western Australian vodka sold by Qantas in its 18-brand range.
Smilov Spirits was founded by Mary and Mitchell Smilovitis in 2020 and the first batch of vodka was released on June 25 2021.
The spirits company has no cellar door or external distributers and is entirely self-funded by the wife-and-husband team.
Ms and Mr Smilovitis scaled up their company to supply Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Liquorland and Perth Airport, among hospitality venues and bars across WA.
“The purple lavender gin was one of the first products we wanted to do, but it’s taken close to 18 months to just get it right and we’re finally ready to go,” Mr Smilovitis told Business News.
“This will be an interesting change for our business as we’re primarily known for our high quality vodka and we’re quite excited to see where this takes our business.”
Ms Smilovitis said she was happy to see the lavender gin come to fruition after the time spent perfecting the recipe.
“I am beyond ecstatic to see this vision come to life,” she said.
Mr Smilovitis said Smilov Spirits' lavender gin was made from local Margaret River ingredients such as the native botanicals and rain water to remain authentic to the south-west region.
”Our gin is also naturally coloured to eliminate compromise on quality and to highlight the subtle lavender notes in both appearance and taste,” Mr Smilovitis said.
Smilov Spirits is looking to expand to Melbourne within the next 12 months.
