Mirvac has secured Spacecubed and its accelerator program, Plus Eight, as new tenants at Allendale Square on St Georges Terrace.

Spacecubed has signed an 800 square metre lease, which will provide more than 130 co-working desks.

Mirvac said Allendale Square’s ground floor would now include a co-working space and business lounge, named Fern, with the lobby to feature informal and casual meeting spaces.

Mirvac portfolio manager Matthew Lutman said the events program run by Spacecubed would help tenants to form connections as well as encourage collaboration, providing exposure to start-ups and through the Plus Eight program.

“Workplaces of the future are no longer focused solely on the physical office space; they must deliver employee experiences that foster collaboration, creativity, ideas, learning and enjoyment,” Mr Lutman said.

“This trend has become even more important following COVID-19 with people missing face-to-face interaction and working as a team.

“As staff start to return to the office, they want more flexibility and engaging interactions as effective innovation and collaboration can be difficult to achieve while working remotely.

“Partnering with Spacecubed, one of the top co-working companies in Perth will allow us to curate activity and foster a community at Allendale Square to cater to these needs.”

Spacecubed head of strategic projects Ophelie Cutier said the new space gave us the opportunity to enhance the communal space and cater to the changing needs of the high-calibre companies in the building.

Plus Eight, an accelerator program backed by Spacecubed, will bring eight startups into the co-working space to take part in a six-month program where they will be given access to seed funding, connections, mentoring and master classes to grow their businesses.

Mirvac is also supporting the program as an investor via Mirvac Ventures.

Plus Eight program manager Isabelle Goldfarb said having Mirvac as a partner made the program significantly stronger.

“With Mirvac coming on board, our startups will have access to an incredible growth network, a pathway to more funding, and the stamp of one of Australia’s most innovative property groups.

Spacecubed’s Fern is now open at Allendale Square, with the new lobby offering to follow in early 2021.

The Allendale Square tenancy adds to Spacecubed’s existing portfolio of 6,300sqm of space across the state.

The deal follows the expansion of fellow flexible workspace provider, Liberty, which secured a new 600sqm location in West Perth and acquired an additional level (12) at 197 St Georges Terrace during COVID.

Liberty now operates more than 6,500sqm of space, with WeWork the largest flexible workspace provider in the CBD with an 11,314sqm portfolio.
