Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has been awarded the contract for above-ground electrical and instrumentation installation at Newcrest Mining's Cadia East gold project in New South Wales.
The contract, awarded through Newcrest's engineering, procurement and construction manager Fluor Australia, will begin in March next year and is expected to take 10 months to complete.
Southern Cross managing director Simon High said the contract showed the company was maintaining its reputation in the gold mining industry, where it has been involved in over 180 construction contracts.
The contract puts Southern Cross' forward order book at over $30 million, and the company expects to finalise a number of other jobs over the next few months that will take that figure to more than $100 million.
