THE South West Tourism Industry body has rejected a suggestion from the Western Australian Tourism Commission to bring parts of WA’s south western regions together under the one umbrella.
Tourism South West has responded to the WATC policy statement.
In a statement it said it was not in the best interests of the South West tourism operators to be managed by a Zone Tourism Association that included the Peel or the Esperance regions.
“Tourism South West should be a zone in its own right from an administrative point of view [ie have a separate board] but continue to work closely with the Great Southern in promoting ‘Australia’s South West’ as a zone,” the TWS said.
“Adding Esperance or Peel into the zone in addition to this would be an administrative nightmare and be unworkable.”
