BP Australia has signed a three-year $150,000 sponsorship deal with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
The sponsorship will allow WASO to undertake major developments in its orchestra’s youth education and development program.
BP Australia has joined WASO as the Pilbara project partner, which will enable members of WASO to run workshops, demonstrations and master classes to students in Karratha, Roebourne and Port Hedland. This October, five WASO musicians will travel to the region to run workshops for more than 1,200 students.
The BP Australia partnership will also enable WASO to appoint a project coordinator, who will liaise with local teachers and work in conjunction with the Western Australian Education Department and Catholic Education Department to build on the existing music program and activities.
The last time WASO musicians visited the Pilbara was in 1998 when the 15-piece Education Chamber Orchestra visited Karratha and Port Hedland.
"It is only through partnerships with companies such as BP Australia that we are able to send smaller ensembles and individual musicians to share the enjoyment of music with these communities," she said.
