Sons of Gwalia digging deeper

Sons of Gwalia’s Advanced Minerals arm will notch up another success today with the official opening of the tantalum processing plant and underground mine at Greenbushes.

Last year, this division produced 30 per cent of world demand for tantalum concentrate, 1.6 million pounds from this operation and another at Wodgina. But with the new plant the underground operation now plans to produce 2.3 million pounds annually from Greenbushes alone.

Sons of Gwalia’s $65 million two-year project upgrade will now introduce underground mining operations to complement an open pit operation, due to finish in 2004.
