AFTER a ‘friendly’ 1-0 win over Greece and a hard-fought 1-1 draw against The Netherlands, the Socceroos are now safely ensconced in the their hotel in Ohringen, Germany, awaiting their highly anticipated World Cup opener against Japan on June 12. They face a tough campaign against Croatia on June 23 and World Cup defenders and the world’s number one team Brazil on June 19. However, the Socceroos are not averse to upsets, posting victories over Brazil and France in 2001 and more recently a 3-1 win over England at Upton Park in 2003. At the time of going to press, the Socceroos had firmed to $67 for a win in the final.
