Small firms lean towards Liberals

SMALL business owners are leaning towards the WA Liberal Party, according to a Business News-commissioned survey by Asset Research.

The survey of 300 small business owners and managers found 48 per cent believe the Liberal Party will do the most for them. Only 6 per cent supported Labor.

Of the 48 per cent that threw their backing behind the Liberal Party, 20 per cent qualified their response by saying the differences between the two major parties were minor.

The biggest issue for small business was State and Federal taxes. Most respondents –71.4 per cent – believe taxes are too high and too complex to comply with.

More than 48 per cent of respondents believe the GST needs to be reformed.

Unfair dismissal laws also ranked as a major concern for small business owners.
