Small business understands more

SMALL business operators’ understanding of the GST has improved substantially in the past six months, according to the Small Business Development Commission’s May 2000 Small Business Opinion Survey.

Almost two-thirds of small business operators now report a ‘reasonable’ understanding of the new tax, compared to 43 per cent in November 1999.

More than 75 per cent had registered for GST and obtained an Australian Business Number.

A further 15 per cent and 16 per cent respectively had indicated they intended to register for the GST or obtain an ABN by 1 July.
