Skippers to fly direct to Onslow

Skippers Aviation will this month begin providing regular public transport flights between Perth and Onslow, where Chevron operates its $29 billion Wheatstone liquefied natural gas project.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the community of Onslow, which is 1,400 kilometres north of Perth, will benefit from three direct return passenger flights per week, starting from next Monday.

“The people of Onslow will be able to fly directly from their own local airport, which has recently undergone a multi-million dollar expansion to accommodate the growing population and local economy,” Mr Nalder said.

He said Skippers will use 30, 36 and 50-seat aircraft to fly commercial passengers between Onslow and Perth on Monday and Wednesday mornings, as well as Friday afternoons.

Local residents will be entitled to fare discounts.

“The upgraded airport can accommodate larger aircraft as well as a helicopter, charter and corporate air travel, which provides opportunities for more tourism and resources activity, as well as a huge leap in convenience for local residents,” Mr Nalder said.
