Sirius hands GR Engineering $114m contract

Sirius Resources, which is in the middle of a takeover by Independence Group, has formally awarded GR Engineering Services a $114 million engineering, procurement and construction contract at its Nova nickel mine in the Fraser Range.

Under the contract, GR Engineering will construct a mineral processing and paste fill plant at the Nova project, with work to begin immediately and be completed by November next year.

“GR Engineering is very experienced in building these processing plants and has a very successful track record of doing so in Western Australia,” Sirius managing director Mark Bennett said.

GR Engineering managing director Geoff Jones said securing the contract ranked highly in the company’s record of achievements to date.

“The company is pleased to play an important role in the development of one of the more significant Australian base metal resource developments of recent times,” he said.

Sirius named GR Engineering as the preferred tenderer for the construction contract in March.

Sirius also awarded local renewable energy design, construction and maintenance firm Future Power a $3 million contract to build an 11 kilovolt overhead power line at Nova.

Shares in Sirius were unchanged at $3.65 a share, while GR Engineering shares rose 3.4 per cent to 91 cents each at 9:45am.
