Energy giant Shell is set to become an anchor tenant at Leighton Properties’ Kings Square development on the former Perth Entertainment Centre site, with construction set to start early next year.
Shell's upstream business in Australia, which employs more than 400 staff, is based in Perth at the Durack Centre on Victoria Avenue where it leases around 5,000 square metres of space.
The first stage of the project features an A grade 11-storey building with approximately 20,000sqm of office space.
The upstream business has stakes in numerous oil and gas assets in the North West of WA and other regions of Australia, and is the developer of the Prelude floating LNG project.
Shell also has a major equity interest in the North West Shelf venture, in the Gorgon LNG project under construction, and Woodside's proposed Browse LNG development.
Leighton's master-planned King's Square will encompass a total commercial area of around 85,000sqm, spanning four buildings fronting Wellington Street.
Construction of the first stage is expected to be complete in early 2014.
The overall City Link project is estimated to be worth around $3 billion.
