Seismic event of little consequence
A SEISMIC event measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale that occurred on January 31 has had little effect on Indepenence Group’s Long Nickel Mine near Kambalda.
The company reports the mine sustained no damage and that there were no lost time injuries.
A jumbo was slightly damaged in a minor rock fall that occurred in a three metre section of a flatback slope that had been fired during the previous shift and not yet had ground support installed.
The event, which was a natural occurrence, will not affect production at the mine.
The company reports that its production for January is significantly above budget in both tonnes and grades.
