City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi has been shortlisted for the 2012 World Mayor Prize.
Ms Scaffidi was one of two mayors in the Australasia region and one of only three women to advance to the next round of voting.
“This is a great opportunity to promote Perth, WA, as a world leading city and to brand Perth while also showing support for me,” Ms Scaffidi said in a statement.
“It’s certainly not about self-promotion as the number of votes, presumably mainly from Perth people, is indicative of the high regard there is for the work being done by the Council as a whole and the City’s staff.
“I’m sure there would also be particular recognition of the changing face of our city and the exciting projects now under way, such as the Perth City Link and Elizabeth Quay, as well as the great amount of private development that is being generated by the resources-driven economy.
The contest is being conducted by UK-based City Mayors Foundation.
Contenders for the title of World Mayor come from six regions – North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australasia.
