SCEE wins $10m CITIC contract

Perth-based Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has been awarded an electrical and instrumentation contract at CITIC Pacific Mining’s Sino Iron project at Cape Preston, worth over $10 million.

SCEE said the scope of the work, which will be performed as a subcontractor to Kerman Contracting, will include E&I installation, testing and commissioning for the grinding mills at four of the six concentrate processing lines. 

“We are delighted to be returning to work on the Sino Iron project where we successfully completed the E&I works on the previous phase of the development,” SCEE managing director Simon High said.

Kerman was recently awarded a $146 million contract at the Sino Iron project for structural, mechanical and electrical work on the same processing lines, and was previously given $54 million to carry out civil and concrete works for the first two processing lines, associated with the previous phase of the project. 

SCEE took up a $25 million contract with BHP Billiton Iron Ore for E&I work at its $100 million 190 megawatt Yarnima power station near Newman, a contract that was initially given to now-collapsed Forge Group.

SCEE’s share price rose by 4.5 per cent to 58 cents per share at 9:30am.
