THE federal Labor Party has a new leadership team, following Kevin Rudd’s defeat of Kim Beazley in a leadership ballot, by 49 votes to 39. Mr Rudd and new deputy leader Julia Gillard are promising a "new style" of leadership, with Mr Rudd expected to finalise a new front bench today. Mr Beazley returned to Perth following the ballot after receiving news of the death of his youngest brother David, and is expected to announce his retirement from politics in the near future.
