Former managing director of Consolidated Minerals, Rod Baxter, has joined Perth-based engineering company Calibre Global as its new managing director.

"Rod's appointment will strengthen the board and provide the skills needed to lead our company forward, and take advantage of any organic and corporate opportunities that may arise," Calibre chairman Ray Munro said in a statement.

Calibre, which has extensive experience in materials handling, aims to build its business in the infrastructure and power space both overseas and in Australia.

Mr Baxter has provided consulting and advisory services since resigning from Consolidated Minerals in April 2008 in the wake of the manganese miner's takeover by Ukrainian-backed Palmary Enterprises in January that year.

The new owners promptly de-listed Consolidated Minerals, which increased in market capitalisation from $350 million to $1.2 billion during the two years Mr Baxter was at the helm.

Mr Baxter also sits on the Murchison Metals board as a non-executive director.
