ROADCARE Pty Ltd has been awarded a $900,000 roadworks contract for the South West Highway near Donnybrook. Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the improvement works would include overlay and widening of the existing road and drainage improvements, along with pavement resurfacing and the installation of roadside furniture. The section of the road in question is between Bendall Road and Marginata Drive just north of Donnybrook. “The works, which are being brought forward a year, are part of the overall strategy to upgrade the South West Highway and will improve road safety by providing a wider road and a more forgiving roadside environment,” Ms MacTiernan said. The contract is scheduled to commence in March with work estimated to be completed by April 2006. The contract is in addition to a $1.5 million package of roadworks announced last year, which are currently being undertaken. These works included widening the seal on various sections of the highway between Donnybrook and Balingup, improving curves and geometry at various locations south of Donnybrook, and reconstruction and widening 0.5km north of Hesters Hill. The project will be managed by Main Roads WA, South West region.
