Outgoing treasurer Eric Ripper is firming up as the Labor Party favourite to replace former Premier Alan Carpenter, who resigned yesterday following a failed election campaign.
ABC radio reported that it understood that the Labor Party's right faction has endorsed Mr Ripper to take the leadership at a meeting earlier today.
The broadcaster also reported that Alannah MacTiernan has told colleagues she would also accept the leadership position, however its understood that she does not have the numbers.
The Labor party is meeting tomorrow at 10am to elect a new leader.
