Retailers confident in December

CONSUMERS in WA are preparing to spend up big this festive season to the tune of $2.6 billion in December, according to the Retail Traders Association. The predicted 10.8 per cent growth on last year is being attributed to a strong local economy and robust residential construction activity, as well as low unemployment and growing population. The lion’s share of this increased spending will go to supermarkets, liquor stores and other specialty food outlets (40 per cent), followed by household goods retailing (18 per cent), which includes furniture, electrical appliances and music.
