Resource index plunges 12pc

WESTERN Australian miners have been hit hard, with the metals and mining index plummeting over 12 per cent on Thursday on fears that the meltdown will spark a global slump and reduce demand for commodities. The index dropped 419.1 points or 12.58 per cent to 2,912.2 points, the biggest percentage drop compared to other indices.
