Research fellows start work

PROFESSORS John Mackenzie and Julian Gale have been awarded the inaugural Premier’s Research Fellowships.

The two professors work at Curtin University.

Professor Mackenzie was on the front line of the fight against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

He recently led a World Health Organisation mission to China to learm more about SARS and has also completed another SARS investigation in Europe.

Professor Mackenzie will work closely with Curtin SARS expert Professor Aileen Plant.

Professor Gale has 15 years experience in the field of material science and catalysis and is world renowned.

His work involves the use of computers to model the behaviour of atoms in both molecules and solids to better understand the properties of these systems.

Each fellowship is worth $1 million over four years and represents a boost to research and development both at Curtin and in Western Australia.
