Remembering Collins’ craft

CARTOONISTS and caricature artists around the country are preparing to deflate the egos of some of Australia’s (and the world’s) most famous and infamous, with the launch of the inaugural Michael Collins Caricature Award. The award honours the memory of highly respected WA caricature artist Michael Collins, who passed away in June 2005. The creator of many great works, including newspaper cartoon strips, children’s book illustrations and thousands of caricatures, Michael was also responsible for the caricature of WA Business News’ very own 40under40 Awards entrants and judges for three years running. Following the awards ceremony on October 18, entries will be on display and for sale at the Kurb Gallery. Funds raised from the sale of entries will go to towards Heart Foundation research across Australia, particularly in the area of children’s heart defects.
