THE Federal Government has reached an in-principle agreement to a new inter-governmental agreement that will lead to greater consistency in national building regulation.
The new IGA provides for direction for the Australian Building Codes Board, which is responsible for producing the Building Code of Australia.
Federal Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane said the agreement followed an extensive review of building regulation by the Productivity Commission and consultation with state and territory ministers.
“This agreement brings a new clarity of direction and is a key step towards a truly nationally consistent building code,” he said.
