The best of Western Australia's regional small businesses were applauded for their service and support to the community at the 2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards held last week.

The best of Western Australia's regional small businesses were applauded for their service and support to the community at the 2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards held last week.

Wayne Cattach and his team at Traxon Industries in Bunbury wre the big winners, taking out the category for Best Business with 10 - 20 employees, as well as the overall Award for "2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business of the Year".

The WA Business News, Business with 5-10 employees award went to Merrill and Steve Dalgleish from Dalgleish Catering in Geraldton.

Commerce Minister said the contribution made by small business operators to the economic and social wellbeing of regional Western Australia should not be underestimated.

"Business stars shine in regional WA"

2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business Award winners announced tonight

Wayne Cattach and his team at Traxon Industries Pty Ltd., Bunbury were the big winners of this year's GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards, held in Perth tonight.

Traxon Industries won the category for Best Business with 10 - 20 employees as well as the overall Award for "2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business of the Year".

Minister for Commerce, Hon. Troy Buswell who presented the Awards, said the contribution made by small business operators to the economic and social wellbeing of regional Western Australia should not be underestimated.

"These awards are a fitting tribute to the sector and highlight the innovations and achievements of small business owners in regional WA," Minister Buswell said.

"With over 97 per cent of all businesses in Western Australia being small business, and a quarter of those being regionally based, this is an important group within our State."

The 2008 GWN Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards, hosted by the Small Business Development Corporation, is the most prestigious Awards program held solely for regional businesses and this year drew finalists from as far as Karratha in the north and Albany in the south.

This is the sixth year of the Awards, with 22 finalists travelling from Albany, Bunbury, Dunsborough, Mandurah, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Karratha.

Steel Blue Micro Business Award: David and Gaynor Clarke, Cape Howe Cottages, Albany

Small Business Centre Network, "Small Business Achiever" Award: John and Karen Williams, Combined Team Services, Bunbury

Small Business Development Corporation Home Based Business Award: Peter and Margaret Hutchison, Smart Burn, Gelorup

Lawrence Business Management Best Franchise Business Award: Ellen House, Harvey World Travel, Bunbury

WA Business News Business with 5-10 employees: Merrill and Steve Dalgleish, Dalgleish Catering, Geraldton

Telstra Countrywide Business with 10-20 employees: Wayne Cattach, Traxon Industries Pty Ltd, Bunbury
