Regional Thai at the new Chiang Rai

GRACING the local restaurant scene by bringing the wonders of Thailand to Perth is Jeerapa (Gaye) Puankgham, who has opened the Chiang Rai Thai on Wellington Street.

If you’ve eaten at the Thai Elephant in Northbridge or at the Amarin Thai Restaurant in Subiaco you’ve probably had a taste of her authentic cuisine, but the extensive menu list at the Chiang Rai Thai will prove there’s a whole lot more Thai for you to try.

The menu has more than 50 cuisine choices and includes an exquisite banquet menu that is sure to impress your party invitees.

From curries to stir-frys and finished with delicious Thai-style desserts, the menu list has a range of choices to suit anyone, which makes the Chiang Rai Thai a great venue to take guests – you know there’ll be something there for everyone.

The restaurant is named after the Thai town where she learned her craft, Chiang Rai, and Ms Puankgham will use her extensive experience to cook up food from Chiang Rai as well as dishes from throughout Thailand.

Ms Puankgham (pictured inset above) has worked at the Amarin Thai Restaurant for 10 years and then at the Thai Elephant Restaurant for two years.

She is now running her own place so she can cook food for patrons the way she knows best – authentically Thai. Located on the corner of Shafto Lane and Wellington Street, the Chiang Rai Thai is open for lunch between 12 and 2.30 and for dinner from 6pm.

A recently addition to the Windows Restaurant cooking team at Burswood Casino is Swiss-born chef Johann Taucher. He will be creating culinary masterpieces to accompany the many wines that will appear in the Windows Signature Series 2001.

Commencing last night, the series showcases some of WA’s finest wineries.

Voyager Estate kicked off the first of the inaugural dinners on Wednesday evening, with chief winemaker Cliff Royle in attendance to share his passion for winemaking and to present the innovative design to the new release Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 1997, Shiraz 1999, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 200 and Chenin Blanc 2000.

Each month join various winemakers as they present their finest drops, accompanied by a four-class meal created by the wizardry of Windows’ chefs.
