WHILE congratulations are in order for your recent article reflecting on the success of local ISPs (WA Business News, August 31), we noted the omission of B Digital Ltd (B) from the comparison table of WA-based ISPs. Best known as being Australia’s largest mobile phone service provider, with more than 350,000 users, we have steadily being building a presence in fixed line and internet markets through our brands of B, Digiplus, Kooee and Soul, and now turnover more than $350 million a year. Currently, we have more than 45,000 internet customers (many more actual users given each account has up to five e-mail addresses) ranking us fourth in this table, and this week have launched a major VoIP offering throughout Australia. Our joint venture arrangements with SPT ComSOUL also allows us to provision customers on our own infrastructure, which we believe, will be critical to survival of all ISPs in the future. The Soul network is a fully converged video, voice and data IP-based network with distributed switching throughout regional Australia, allowing us to introduce alternative, competitive broadband infrastructure throughout Australia. We are the only WA-based carrier with this capability. Founded in Perth in 1999, B employs more than 430 staff in WA and 120 in NSW and is committed to our head office operation in Perth, having last year signed a long-term lease on three floors of the SOUL building at 1 Adelaide Terrace. We also have a proud record of achievement in staff development, being the first call centre operation in WA to be recognised as a registered training organisation, and so far more than 180 staff have successfully graduated with their certificate three in customer contact. These achievements have contributed to us winning the CSIA Service Excellence Award (Medium Business for WA for the past three years. Thank you for the opportunity to correct this omission and we look forward to making a positive, ongoing contribution to the WA community and economy. Steve Mitchinson - B Digital, general manager WA
