Renewable energy developer PWR Hybrid has been tapped by Ramelius Resources to build and operate a hybrid power station at its Mt Magnet mine.
Perth-headquatered PWR notched the power purchase agreement with a Ramelius’ subsidiary for the station at the Mt Magnet gold mine in the Mid West.
Adjacent to the town, the Mt Magnet gold mine is Ramelius’ flagship operation which consists of numerous open pit and underground mines, alongside exploration assets.
Under the 15-year power purchase deal, PWR will build and operate a 32-megawatt hybrid power station consisting of 14MW gas generation, 3MW diesel generation and 6.7MW solar PV and an 8MW/10MWh battery energy storage system.
The solar and battery system together are expected to cover 15 per cent of the power required at the Mt Magnet gold mine. It’s also expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 4,407 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum.
According to PWR, the power purchase agreement could accommodate adding wind generation and expanding the solar PV to support future operations at the gold mine.

Power supply will commence in January.
Late last year, PWR finalises a 10-year power supply deal with Iluka Resources to be generated from its solar farm development.
PWR is owned by a subsidiary of I Squared Capital, which is a US-based global infrastructure fund.
