WA retailers outside Sunday trading precincts will again be disadvantaged by the looming end of extended Christmas trading hours, says the Retailer Traders Association.
RTA director Wayne Spencer said that many retailers allowed to open have reported that Sunday is their most successful day of trade.
Outside the Christmas period, only retailers within the special precincts of Midland, Armadale, Fremantle, Joondalup and Perth are permitted to open on Sundays.
"Research by the Retail Traders' Association of Western Australia shows that shop owners which are located in those precincts are seeing big increases in their sales with some struggling to keep products on the shelf," Mr Spencer said.
He said that since Sunday trading was introduced in November, Joondalup shop owners have reported a 100 per cent growth in sales.
"Midland and Armadale businesses have also reported the same growth, but within just 4 weeks," he added.
"It's not fair that most WA retailers are missing out on this opportunity."
