UWA Professor Peter Quinn has been appointed the director of a new $20 million radio astronomy research centre, headquartered at UWA. Professor Quinn will be working with the WA and federal governments and CSIRO to maximize the chances of Australia winning the bid to host the $2.5 billion international SKA radio telescope in the Mid West region. Professor Quinn’s research focuses on the formation and evolution of galaxies using supercomputer computations and simulations. In particular, he is working on the nature of dark matter, its formation and evolution around galaxies and influence on galaxy formation.
