State public housing tenants living in prime locations in West Perth will not be pushed aside to make way for the wealthy, the Ministry of Housing has confirmed.
State public housing tenants living in prime locations in West Perth will not be pushed aside to make way for the wealthy, the Ministry of Housing has confirmed.
According to Ministry of Housing managing director Greg Joyce, the Ministry has resisted calls for years from developers and the public to sell out of West Perth.
“Though from time to time we are pressed by developers to relinquish our West Perth properties, the answer remains that this could only be done if comparable accomodation was found in the same area,” Mr Joyce said.
Arguably one of the best properties in West Perth belongs to the State Government and houses some of Perth’s poorest.
Located on a large block on the corner of Colin and Hay Streets, the Graham Building is a block of flats that has been in the hands of the Ministry of Housing for decades.
The Ministry also controls Mayfair Views, a ten-year-old block of apartments and town houses for singles, families and seniors.
