Premier promises better stadium experience

The state government has promised a more comfortable experience for spectators at Perth’s new multipurpose stadium, with wider seats and better viewing angles for supporters.

The new chairs will be one centimetre less wide than Qantas business class seats, and similar in size to those used at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

Premier Colin Barnett said spectator comfort was an important driver in the planning of the new stadium.

“The new stadium will be much bigger and more comfortable than the seats at Patersons Stadium, with enough spacing between rows to allow patrons to pass through without other patrons having to stand up,” Mr Barnett said.

Mr Barnett said the sightlines at the new stadium would ensure fans would not have to stand up to watch action close to the boundary.

The Premier said the design phase for the stadium would begin later this year, with a project definition plan on track to be complete within the coming months.
