Bids are due in to Western Power by the middle of the month, for new power stations for Broome, Camballin-Looma, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek. All bids that satisfy essential criteria, are to be assessed on weighted merit criteria which include reliability and quality of supply (0.2), project delivery capability (0.15), risk and gain sharing (0.15), community benefits (0.15), operational capability (0.15), environmental impact (0.1), and project technology (0.1).

Western Power expects the preferred bidder(s) to be announced in May.

Meanwhile four shortlisted bidders are preparing final submissions to supply peaking generation into the South West Interconnected System by 2005.

Those preparing for the May deadline towards securing this power purchase agreement are a Griffin Energy and Hongkong Electric International consortium, Mitsui & Co Limited, an Origin Energy and ANZ Infrastructure Services consortium, and a Transfield Services Limited and ABN Amro consortium.

Burns & Roe Worley is working towards a July commencement for construction of a new Esperance power station.
