Power outages are affecting 35,000 residents across Perth and Western Australia's South West.

Western Power spokesman Paul Entwistle told 6PR radio the change in the weather caused the outage, with light rain triggering safety mechanisms.

He said power should be restored to most customers by the end of the day.

A 3pm Twitter update from Western Power stated that the utility was working to restore power to those affected, and 20 additional crews had been mobilised to assist with restorations.

That was after Western Power cancelled its planned outages for the day to redeploy its resources.
