The mining boom has delivered major new contracts for construction comanies DORIC Group and Decmil Group, which today announced deals collectively worth $163 million to build workers camps in the Pilbara.
Decmil has won its second significant contract this month, with the company announcing a $71 million deal to build workers accommodation at the Warrawandu Village, near Newman, for BHP Billiton Iron Ore.
The contract is to design and build the Warrawandu Village and also includes design, construction and fit-out of a bulk storage building, facilities management maintenance workshop and a maintenance facility.
"This is a multi-faceted project that includes extensive civil and infrastructure works," Decmil Group chief executive Scott Criddle said.
"It will draw on Decmil Australia's broad capabilities across its three operating divisions and will further demonstrate the capacity of Decmil's expanding civil division to deliver all elements of complex projects including construction of villages and non-process infrastructure."
Mr Criddle said the contract lifted the company's order book for 2011/12 to around $250 million.
Work on Warrawandu Village will commence immediately and will be completed in October 2012.
Earlier this month, Decmil announced it had won a $55 million contract to install a second 800-man camp at Fortescue Metals' Christmas Creek operation.
Meanwhile, construction and contracting group DORIC has won a $92 million contract to build a workers camp at Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting's Hope Downs iron ore joint venture.
DORIC will design and construct 920 workers' rooms and associated recreational facilities at Hope Downs, including a swimming pool, sports facilities and wet mess, administration areas and shops, kitchen facilities and bus shelters.
DORIC Contractors general manager Joseph Martin said the contract further cemented the group's position as a leading contractor for resources industry support infrastructure.
"We're proud to be a part of this project and look forward to a long working relationship with Rio Tinto and KBR" he said.
