Communities in the Pilbara region have reaped more than $170,000 in WA Government grants announced this week.
The Shire of East Pilbara has been awarded grants worth more than $48,000 for community facilities in Newman and to conduct a survey of rateable mining leases in the Shire.
Two Port Hedland institutions, the Blackrock Stakes and the Well Women’s Centre, have also been granted additional Government funding.
The Hedland Well Women’s Centre gains $26,208 to allow the completion of its new premises while the Town of Port Hedland gets $14,500 towards the 2005 Black Rock Stakes event in June.
The last, and largest, tranche of Pilbara money announced this week has gone to three community projects in Tom Price and Paraburdoo.
The Shire of Ashburton gains $50,000 towards an upgrade at Doug Talbert Park, Tom Price; the Paraburdoo and Tom Price Youth Support Association get $28,425 to help expand a youth music program; and the Paraburdoo Community Support Group gets $6,000 towards a feasibility study for a multi-function sports complex.
