Picton-based Piacentini & Son has won a contract to undertake mining work at Galaxy Resources’ Mt Cattlin lithium project near Ravensthorpe.
Under the contract, which has an undisclosed value, Piacentini will provide an excavator, dump trucks, a dozer and other ancillary equipment to Mt Cattlin, as well as plant operators and maintenance staff.
A drill and blast component of the contract will be carried out by a subcontractor of Piacentini, Dynamic Drill & Blast.
Work under the contract is expected to begin this month.
There are about 230,000 tonnes of crushed ore already at Mt Cattlin that will be processed at the mine’s plant in the coming weeks until mining commences.
Established about 40 years ago, Piacentini is a privately owned and operated family company, which owns one of the largest CAT scraper fleets in the Southern Hemisphere.
Its clients also include First Quantum Minerals, Iluka Resources, Griffin Coal and Alcoa of Australia.
Galaxy shares were 3.4 per cent higher to 36.2 cents each at 11am.
