Phone betting pulls punters

A NORTHERN Territory-based telephone betting service is proving popular.

Licensed and sanctioned by the Northern Territory Govern-ment, Centrebet Pty Ltd is now the largest company of its type in the southern hemisphere.

Founded in 1992 by prominent Alice Springs bookmaker Terry Lillis, Centrebet was the first organisation in Australia to be granted a telephone sports bookmaking licence.

The company accepts fixed odds wagers on sporting events and international thoroughbred horse races provided the events are sanctioned by reputable controlling bodies.

Wagers can be placed on selected events across a range of sports including AFL football, baseball, basketball, cricket, golf, the Olympic and Common-wealth Games and rugby league.
