The Perth-based Australian subsidiary of Phoenix International has secured a contract with the Royal Australian Navy.

Under the $388 million contract, Phoenix International Australia will provide submarine rescue services for the Navy.

In a statement, the state government said the deal would create 70 additional jobs for Western Australians.

Phoenix International is headquartered in the US state of Maryland and is primary contractor for the operation and maintenance of the US Navy's submarine rescue systems.

Defence Issues Minister Paul Papalia said the announcement showcased one of the many highly skilled and capable companies in the state's defence industry.

"It also aligns with the Western Australian Defence and Defence Industries Strategic Plan, launched by the premier last year, which outlined the McGowan government's commitment to develop WA as the principal location for submarine maintenance and sustainment,” he said.

"Phoenix has established an office within the state-owned Australian Marine Complex.”

Mr Papalia said Defence West was now working with Phoenix and other key stakeholders to develop purpose-built facilities for its operations.

"This project forms a further significant part of the state government's plan to upgrade the Henderson precinct to deliver the capability requirements to support the Royal Australian Navy."

In 2017, Phoenix International Holdings and Infinity Offshore created a joint venture in Perth called Infinity Phoenix Subsea.

The joint venture focused on inspection, maintenance, repair and decommissioning services for sea vessels in the Australasia region, via the use of an atmospheric diving system hardsuit.
