AUSTRALIAN motor racing legend Peter Brock was killed in a car accident at Gidgegannup while competing in the Targa West rally. Brock was a dominant figure in Australian motor sport, winning the Bathurst 1000 a total of nine times. Outside of motor sport, he was a board member of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation since 1998 and a former director of AFL club Collingwood. He also won an Order of Australia medal in 1980 due to his commitment to spreading the road safety message.
